YELLOW BREECHES WATERSHED
Challenge
Lower Allen Township officials, area residents, and other community stakeholders wanted to preserve and protect the Yellow Breeches Creek for future generations. This creek was designated part of Pennsylvania 's Scenic Rivers System in 1993 and is a world-renowned trout fishery that supports more than 150 species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. In addition, the creek provides drinking water to area residents through two dams that serve the United Water Company and the Pennsylvania American Water Company.
Solution
HRG helped the community form the Yellow Breeches Watershed Association and is currently completing a watershed assessment and river conservation plan for the group.
HRG's knowledge of available grants and funding helped the association obtain more than $300,000 for its preservation efforts …
Because of our close relationship with the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, HRG was able to help Lower Allen Township obtain Growing Greener Grant funding to form the Yellow Breeches Watershed Association. We also helped the association obtain an additional $300,000 in grants to develop the watershed assessment and river conservation plan.
To complete this assessment and conservation plan, HRG is completing an inventory and analyzing the watershed's resources, identifying and ranking watershed problems, and developing management options and strateges to solve these problems. As an active member of the Yellow Breeches Watershed Association, we are also providing continuing support for the education and public outreach services the organization provides. |
