WHITE DEER CREEK
Challenge
Union County wanted to create a plan that would control stormwater run-off in the White Deer Creek watershed in order to preserve this valuable resource as development occurred in the area. This 46.6 mile watershed is a high quality, cold water fishery.
Solution
HRG completed an Act 167 Stormwater Management Plan that included:
- groundwater recharge requirements,
- stream bank erosion standards,
- over bank/extreme event standards, and
- provisions for the requirement of post-construction stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) through local ordinances.
To prepare this plan, we completed the following tasks:
- data collection,
- hydrologic and hydraulic modeling,
- technical analysis, and
- public and municipal coordination.
Value-added service for every dollar …
By using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Hydrologic Engineering Center Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) software, we produced data for the county that can be used for many other applications besides stormwater management. For example, the data can be used to update floodplains and develop emergency action plans. It can also be integrated easily with Geographic Information Systems, so you can add the data you've collected to your GIS for even more applications. This ensures you get the maximum investment out of every dollar you invest in this project. |
