Relocating to Hermitage
Looking for a cozy, small town atmosphere in which to make your career and raise a family? Hermitage, Pennsylvania, may be just the place for you.
Small Town Living Among Major U.S. Cities
Hermitage offers many of the advantages of small town life:
- Affordable housing
- Shorter commutes
- Low cost of living
- Low crime rates
Yet residents of the area are only an hour’s drive from the big city culture of Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Erie. In addition, they are within a six-hour drive to New York, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Detroit.
Education
Compared to other cities of its size, Hermitage has a high percentage of college-educated adults. Perhaps that’s because there are eight colleges and universities within just 25 miles of the city center, including Penn State Shenango Campus, Youngstown State University, Grove City College, Slippery Rock University, and Westminster College. For K-12, there are 12 public schools and four parochial schools within the area, as well.
Culture
Thanks, in part, to the proximity of so many colleges, Hermitage plays host to a variety of cultural activities. Venues include:
Parks and Recreation
Recreational opportunities for fishing, swimming, boating and camping abound with four lakes and two state parks in the county: Goddard and Shenango Reservoir. If you're looking to stay a little closer to home, however, the City of Hermitage has three community parks: Buhl Farm, which features a swimming pool, playground, picnic grounds, fitness trail, driving range and the world’s only free public nine-hole golf course; Rodney White Olympic Park, which features a recreational trail and ball fields; and the Carl Harris Little League Complex.
Other recreational opportunities include:
Shops Galore
Those whose idea of recreation leans more toward a brisk walk through the mall will find the Hermitage area equally appealing. Amish crafts and German clocks, fine wines, and country gifts are just the beginning of what the Mercer County area has to offer its retail loving residents. Serious shoppers can also make the short drive southeast to Grove City to find bargains at one of the top 20 outlet malls in the United States, Prime Outlets. Those with a passion for footwear will be amazed at the selection at Reyers, the world's largest shoe store, while those looking for the latest in lady's evening wear will not be disappointed with the fabulous selection at The Winner.
