What is a typical day at HRG like for you?
My work varies so frequently that I really cannot describe a "typical" work day. One day I might be in the office doing drainage reports or traffic analysis; the next day I might be in the field doing inspections or taking measurements. I get to do such a variety of assignments that there is no telling what I could be doing from day to day.
What brought you to HRG?
There are many reasons I came to HRG. HRG is a successful and growing company that produces high quality work. I knew that I would get good training and learn the skills I needed to be a successful engineer. When I was interviewed, everyone at the office was very welcoming and made it very comfortable for me. I knew after the interview that HRG values their employees and was the type of company that I would want to work for. The high quality of the experience I would receive and the people I would work with really made HRG stand out to me.
What has been your favorite project so far, and what responsibilities did you have on this project?
My favorite project so far has been pavement condition surveys for East Lampeter Township and Littlestown Borough. My responsibilities included inspecting the condition of the roadways in each municipality, determining which roadways warranted repair or reconstruction, setting up cost estimates for the repairs and reconstructions, and putting together the final report.
What do you like best about your job?
The best part about my job is that I get to learn so many different aspects of civil engineering on any given day. I'm never sure exactly what I'll be working on, but I know that it will help me become a more well-rounded civil engineer.
What skills have you gained since you began working at HRG?
I have gained skills in the field and in technical areas since joining HRG. Working for HRG has taught me what the proper procedure for project inspection is, helped me become proficient in Autocad, and given me the experience to apply what I learn in classes to real world projects. This is just a few of the skills I have acquired since I began working here.
In which areas do you wish to grow?
I would like to expand on my knowledge of traffic flow and analysis.
What would you tell upcoming graduates is the best reason to work for HRG?
HRG has a good working atmosphere. The work is always challenging but never overly stressful. You will never receive a task that is beyond your capabilities and can always rely on more experienced personnel if you have any questions regarding the work you are doing. To sum it all up, HRG is a great company to work for because the people you work with will always help you when you need it.
